Kea

Kea is an ideal vacation place for families, groups and relaxed couples. Here you can enjoy a marvellous Greek cuisine, explore old ruins and relax in the magnificent coves and beaches the seductive island has to offer.

Kea is located in the southwestern Aegean and is part of the Cyclades. It is the most western inhabited island and lies 60 km south-eastern of Athens. Around 2500 people live especially in the north of the 132 km2 big island. Together with the neighbouring islands Kythnos and the uninhabited Makronisos it forms the community Kea-Kythnos. Its highest mountain is Profitis Ilia with 568 m.

If you are a hiking fan you will love the variety of landscapes of Kea. From lovely small coves, to an amazing green nature and a hilly adventurous environment you will find many different peaceful places without many people. The only camping place of the island lies in the west coast in Pisses.

For cultural interested people Kea offers especially in the summer diverse cultural events. From the outdoor cinema, with current international movies, to small village celebrations and the best Greek cuisine you can find in the Aegean you will not be disappointed. Moreover you have the possibility to see some of the most important archaeological places of ancient ruins of the Aegean Sea. The islands mascot is the more than 2500 year old recumbent stone lion, with this remarkable smile in his face. The lion is connected with the islands mythology. Because of the jealousy for the abundant of water and fertility of the island, some gods sent the lion to drive out the nymphs who were responsible for that wealth.

But the effect of the lion could not last for long: today Kea is a prosperous and self-sufficient island with fertility in vineyards, vegetable fields, livestock and small forests with Valonea oak trees.

So give the island a try and enjoy your next Holidays!
