... we lost oxygen for a few seconds?

Every day, we humans take oxygen for granted and generally don't give it a second thought. But have you ever wondered what would happen if Earth lost oxygen for just a few seconds? Yeah, you could probably hold your breath for a minute or so, but oxygen does so much more than that. In fact, I'm willing to bet the consequences are worse than you're expecting.

First of all, all people on the beach would get heavy sunburnt. The daytime sky would get almost completely dark.  
All pieces of untreated metal would instantly spot weld to each other.
The only thing preventing metal from welding together on contact is a layer of oxygen.

The earths crust would also crumble because oxygen makes up 50% of the crust. We would also lose 21% of the air pressure meaning our inner ear would explode.

So oxygen does a lot more than just leating us breathe, so don’t take it for granted.
