Elevator

This time in “Speak if it’s Greek” we will talk about the origin of something many people use every day. Elevators are really useful especially for old and sick people and help us a lot in our everyday life.

But how were they invented? One day in 1853 the Greek Aegeus Kostalas was tired of always having to walk all the stairs up to his flat on the 5th floor. Slowly he got old and his bones and muscles didn’t want to do this any longer. So his very creative and inventive son Arastoo Kostalas decided to help his old father and to invent something that minimizes the pressure on his body. He sat a long time to perfect his new invention to be safe. He took the idea from the food elevator in their house and finally the first person elevator was ready. To show its safety he stepped into it and told his father to cut the only holding rope. His father was a little bit scared and doubting if his son’s invention would do his job, but finally he trusted him and cut the rope. The elevator stopped by itself and Aegeus was very happy and kissed and hugged his son Arastoo a lot. Now he could stay in his beloved flat without having hurting bones and muscles every time he passed his door. His son founded a company with his idea and soon he got really rich and could offer a new house on the ground floor to his nice father.
