Karpathos

Karpathos is the second largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands, in the south-eastern part of the Aegean Sea.. Because of its remote location between Crete and Cyprus, Karpathos has preserved many peculiarities of dress, customs and dialect, the last resembling those In Crete and Cyprus.

 

 The population of the island is around 6,000 inhabitants. This number more than doubles in the summer months as many people come to the island for their vacation with their families., there can be up to 20,000 people on the island during the summer months. The population density is greatest during the 15th of August due to the Panagias festival , which is considered the most important festival on the island. Individuals travel from around the world to attend the festival and view the many traditions that still remain on the island. 

 Karpathos is truly one of the most beautiful islands of the Aegean Sea. Due to the secluded location and the distance from the other Greek islands, Karpathos island started developing in the last decades. In fact, the southern side of the island has mostly developed in tourism, while the central and the northern side has remained unspoiled and authentic, with picturesque villages away from mass tourism. Karpathos Greece is mostly famous for the exotic beaches with the golden sand and the crystal water. Holidays in Karpathos are ideal for families and trekkers, as the trekking paths that cross the island leads visitors to amazing spots.
