Postcards

Today in Speak if it's Greek we will talk about Postcards.

Those small rectangular pieces of thick paper are widespread in the whole world... and I'm sure that you have sent or received postcards during your life!

They are actually the easiest and most typical souvenir you can send from any place you visit...But have you ever asked yourself about who invented postcards?

Recent studies have revealed it was a Greek painter, at the end of the 16th century. A friend of him had left Greece since many years and he wanted to send him something that could easily remind him of his beautiful homeland, this is why he painted a beautiful Greek landscape on a small rectangular paper and sent it like a letter.

This was very unusual at the start but little by little it became more common, and nowadays postcards are diffused in the whole world.

Do you think this story is real or not?

Solution:

Sorry but this story was not real. The person who invented postcards was the British writer Theodore Hook, who in 1840 mailed the first postcard to himself.
