Pasta

In today's "Speak if it's Greek" we will talk about the pasta.

Everyone, at least once in his life, tried pasta, and almost everyone loves it. For example Italians are a pasta-lovers. Actually, for some people it is hard to imagine their diet without pasta. But who was that smart, to invent a dish, that is so simply to prepaire and so tasty at the same time?

When you are thinking about pasta, then you probably think - Italy. I am pretty sure that almost everyone think in this way. People all over the world are sure that it was Italian's idea. But think about it... Isn't it too obviously, that Italian invented the pasta?

To make it more clear, let us tell you the story, which we heard a few weeks ago:

On Lesvos was living a man, whose name was Lefteris. Once he hit upon the idea to make up a dish by barley-flour pasta and water dried to the sun. And he did, of course! It was perfectly fine and awesome! He was totally suprised, that his idea turned out that good. People started to ask him about the receipt and so on. At the beggining pasta was popular only on this island, later in Greece, but then Greeks started to think, that maybe they should show this incredible dish to the other people. This is how pasta driffted to other countries. It may seems so sensless when you read it, but it could be the truth.

Another common belief about pasta is that it was brought to Italy from China by Marco Polo during the 13th century. But if this is the truth? If pasta could be Chinese or Greek product? If you want to know, check the solution!

Solution:

Noodles existed in Asia long before Polo’s trip to China. Archaeologists believe that central Asia is most likely the first area to have produced noodles thousands of years ago. From Asia, it traveled westward. The way it reached Europe is unclear, there are many theories.
