Tzatziki

Can you imagine spring without flowers? Can you imagine winter without snow? Can you imagine Greek dish without the best sauce in the world? For sure no!

 

Tzatziki is the most popular sauce in Greece, but it is very popular in Turkey too. The difference is in the writing, Greek tzatziki is written with a “t” at the beginning and the Turkish one with “c”. Turkish people use this sauce only in special occasions but in Greece you can find it everywhere: in pita, in salad, even just spread on the bread. Whole Greece is crazy about this mixture and all tourists from the whole world, too. What is the secret of such a big success? Less is more! The only ingredients that you need to make tzatziki is Greek yoghurt, cucumber and garlic. Of course you can add all ingredients tha you want, to make it nicer for you.

Anyway before you start preparing tzatiki don’t forget about washing your hand and of course cucumber, then pill it and shred on a grater. Mix with yoghurt and add finely chopped garlic. Then small amount of spices and ready.

Of course we cannot forget about proportion, for ½ kilo of Greek yoghurt one big cucumber and 3-4 cloves of garlic.

As a special ingredient you can also use radish, oil, chive, lemon, onion or feta, but in our opinion all these accessories can destroy real test of tzatziki which you can eat with all kind of food. With meat, vegetables, bread. It doesn’t have to be eaten only with Greek dishes but also with another once like pizza or french fries. Important is to remember that before eating you must chill it in the refrigerator. Then our delicious tzatziki are ready!
