The modern olympic games

“The Modern Olympics Games”

Today I want to talk about the modern Olympic games.

They are one of the most famous and important events which thousand of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions.

The modern games are held every four years, alternating  with the summer and winter games by occurring in two years apart. Their creation was inspired by the ancient olympic games, which were held in Olympia from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.
Other countries like United Kingdom and France in the begin of the 17th century attempted to emulate the ancient olympics.
The evolution of the olympic movement during the 20th and 21th centuries consists in: Winter Olympic Games for ice and winter sports, the Paralympic games for athletes with a disability and the Youth Olympic Games for teenage athletes.

Now, try to guess if it was a greek invention or not.
Thank you for listening!!!

Solution:
if you had bet the modern games are not a greek invention, you are right! Because Baron Pierre De Coubertin founded the “International Olympic Committee” (IOC) in 1894. The IOC is the governing body of the Olympic Movement but with the Olympic Charter defining its structure and authority.
