Andros

If your dream is to find an island in which you can do fishing, diving and sailing, Andros it's your paradise.
It's an Cycladic island, nearly 40 km long and its greatest breadth is 16 km.
According to the mithology, Andros was a grandson of Apollo, general of the cretan king Rhadamanthus, and the king give to him this island.

 


Many peoples have been in Andros, as the Phoenicians, the Cretans and the Persians. Andros joined the Athenian League, but after the high taxation it changed its alliance with Sparta. Andros was conquered also by the Macedonians, the Romans, the Venetians, the Byzantines and the Turkish.
In Andros there is a fertile and idyllic landscape, with gardens and soils cultivable, thanks to abundance of the water.
There are several pedestrian streets that connect different places and villages on the island, and it makes this island peaceful and quiet. Andros promoted a program to develop the sustainable tourism, so the island is rich of pedestrian signposting that make simple the movements around the island. It's perfect if you like the excursions, and you could approach its wonderful fauna and flora, its mineral water, and its history.
In Andros there are a lot of beautiful beaches, and Agios Petros is one the more wonderful.
If you are interested to the cultural side, Andros offers the museum of contemporary art, the archeological museum, a maritime museum, and the Kairos library.
Furthermore in the summer Andros has a nightlife with music bar and an outdoor cinema.
