The Swimming Pool

Now, in the hot time of the year, people enjoy every cool thing they find – ice cream, the shadow, cold drinks… But the best refreshment is to take a bath in the cool sea. Unfortunately the sea is not reachable for everybody, so people far away from lakes and the sea can get their refreshment in swimming pools.

We can find them in and outside and water parks are perfect for having some fun on huge waterslides and other cooling attractions. People use the pool area not only in the hot summer. Also for sportive activities, like the classic swimming, water polo, synchronized swimming or fin swimming the pools are used. Children learn how to swim there much easier than in wavy water of the sea.

Swimming as an organized activity goes back to 2500 B.C. Swimming was part of the education of elementary age boys and the first heated swimming pool was built the first century BC. However, swimming pools did not become popular until the middle of the 19th century. By 1837, six indoor pools with diving boards were built in London, England. After the beginning of the modern Olympic Games in 1896, swimming races were among the original events and the popularity of swimming pools began to spread.

And? Do you think that the Greeks created the swimming pool?

Solution:

No, it isn’t a Greek invention. This time the Romans were faster and built the first swimming pool.
