Volissos

Located on a hill about 40 kilometers northwest from the capital of Chios lies the village of Volissos. This charming village is the biggest village in the northern area of the island, as well as the capital of the municipality of Amani.

Typical characteristics of Volissos are the many watermills and Byzantine churches. A big castle from the 11th century stands on top of the hill and creates a medieval atmosphere with its trapezoid shape and six circular towers. This calm village is the perfect destination for those interested in architecture, fine arts and photography due to all of the well preserved architectural traits and the village's breathtaking view over the Aegan sea.
In the surroundings of Volissos you will find the most varied scenery: plains, mountains, rivers, beaches and bays. These unspoilt areas are great for hiking, especially in springtime.

Volissos enables you to travel back in time and experience the traditional Greece, but also taste some flavorful Greek food in the village's several tavernas. You can lie down on some of the excellent beaches nearby (such as  Managros, Magemena, Lefkathia, Limnos and the beach of Agia Markella) and enjoy the crystal clear water.
