The Holy Shrine of St. Marcella

Hello and welcome in ChiosRadio.gr
Today I would like to present to you our special places for this week “The Holy Shrine of St. Marcella”. This temple is located in Volissos – really beautiful and charming village on the north of the Island (40 kilometers northwest from Chios city).

This monastery is dedicated to Agia Markella.
She was born in Volissos and tragically murdered by her father also in this village. In the 22th of Jully residences from Volissos, from all over the Island and also from abroad come to celebrate her holyday. So 22 of Jully is the biggest Panigiria on the Island. (more information about Panigiria you can find in the section “Event” of cource on our website ChiosRadio.gr) About 20 minutes away from he church you can find on the beach, the place where the saint died a martyr to her faith and where the holy water spurts from the rocks.

So now, imagine the complex of the monastery with small church and beautiful sandy beach on the background. Really wonderful pictures which you just have to add to your list on the special places in the Chios Island and can not miss it!
