Sikiada

The small village of Sikiada is located on a hill close to the sea, 15 kilometers North from the city of Chios, with its own village as port, namely Pantoukios.

Sikiadas architecture consists mostly of the old, two-stored stone houses and the newer ones, which are connected with narrow streets. Its inhabitants are mostly occupied as sailors and farmers, who work in the nearby port village with the name Pantoukios. The name Sikiada originates from the numerous fig trees that grow in the area (“fig” = “σύκο”). There are also numerous churches in and outside the village like Agios Isidoros, Agios Giannis, Agios Nikolaos and “The Birth of the Virgin Mary”. On the 8th of September, the day of the lastly named church is being celebrated in the village.
