Tholopotami

The village of Tholopotami is located in the South of Chios, 12 kilometers from the city of Chios and situated on the vegetated hill Profitis Ilias (“Prophet Ilias”).

From there, its inhabitants have an amazing view over the Kambos and Kambochora regions, as well as the coast of Asian Minor. The architecture of the village dates back to the time of the Byzantine occupation and the ownership of the Justiniani family, which built a mass of various buildings in the area. Sadly, the villages' fortress and the buildings today lie mostly in ruins. This does not matter, however, as Tholopotami is of great interest for researchers, who consider the houses there to be precursors of the famous Kambos mansions.
