Didima

The name of one of the smallest villages in the South of Chios is Didima. It is situated close to other villages like Kini, Nenita and Kataraktis.

Due to its location Didima is part of the Mastichora region and was among the stronger effected villages by the earthquake in 1881, which killed much of its former population and leveled the village almost completely. Today, there are only a few permanent residents left, most of them elderly, since the new houses were mostly build on the outskirts of Didima.

Close to the village is the monastery of Panagia Sicily. There are also the celebration on the 6th of August about the grace of Christ and on the 8th of September the citizens celebrate the Birth of the Virgin Mary.
