Diefcha

Diefcha, in Greek  Διευχά,  is a small mountain village in the northwest of the island and It is located 30 km from the city of Chios. Diefcha lies down on the hillside of Athos mount, surrounded by olive trees and a leafy vegetation.

 

 A small road of one kilometrer conects the village with the Monastery  of  St John  the Baptist,  known in this places as Μονή Μουνδών, monastery Moundon.  It is a  Byzantine Sacred Monastery which for many centuries was very important for the history of Chios. The church of St. John is celebrated on August 29 and it is the most important celebration for the village (The "Decapitation").  The interior building is fully decorated with beautiful paintings, 475 in total, dating back to 1750 AD

 In the village there is the church (η «χωριοεκκλησιά») of Diefcha dedicated to the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ (August 6), and an old temple of Archangel.

 The village belongs to the episcopal supervision Ecclesiasticall Volissos the Metropolis of Chios Psaron and Oinoussai.
