Triton

Today for our category “creatures from HELLas” I have another creature for you from the Greek mythology again. But at the end of the article, you still have the opportunity to guess whether I just made it up or it really belongs to the mythology. So, read carefully the following information.

The creature is well-known as the power and the messenger of the sea and is called Triton. He is the son of the famous gods of the sea as well: Poseidon and Amphirite. The creature also functions as a messenger and herald for his father Poseidon. But he also has siblings, his brother Rhodes and his sister Benthesicyme.

Of course, for living in the sea it is necessary to have special body parts. Therefore, the creature looks like a mermaid, but it is still a male. The body is divided into two parts, on the one hand, the upper part of the body is human, and on the other hand the rest of the body, a tale similar to one of a fish. On his shoulder, there are some seashells. Like his father Poseidon, the creature has a trident. But he also has a conch shell. Usually, he uses his conch shell as a trumpet to generate a specific, loud sound. This allows him to control the water of the sea by raising or calming. The power of his trident and conch shell he can even change the environment and frightens the biggest giants and wild beasts. Therefore, he even is described as the ruler of the sea. Triton is also often a part of the father´s parades by walking in front of Poseidon in order to calm the sea water. Consequently, Poseidon can smoothly walk through the water with his chariot.

Triton has a special living area. He lives, along with his parents, in a big palace made of gold in the depths of the sea. According to Homer, the creature even lives in the Aegean Sea.
