...earth was shaped like a donut?

Years ago, people were convinced that the earth is flat. In today’s world everyone knows our earth is shaped like a ball. But what if things were different? What if for example earth was shaped like a donut?

Planets do not naturally shape like a donut but regarding the physical laws it would be possible. Depending on your position on a donut shaped earth gravity would be different. It would be weakest at the inner and outer circle and strongest at the poles, the upper and lower part of the donut.

Furthermore, the earth would have to spin much faster than it does right now because the centrifugal forces would be needed to prevent the donut shape from collapsing. This means that days on a donut shaped world would be much shorter than usual. The other option would be to keep the 24 hours days and have several sunrises and sunsets per day.

Your position on earth would not only be important regarding the gravity but also the question how much sunlight you have. In the inner circle of the hole there might be times when everything is covered in shades of another part of the earth.

On the other hand, you might have a great view on the opposite part of the inner circle if you are located near the hole.

As you see many things would be different but all in all living under these conditions would be possible in theory. And you never know, maybe people on a donut shaped earth would write articles like “What if earth was shaped like a ball?”.
