StrangeZero

This week we are back with a great Greek band called StrangeZero that is “travelling with machines, dreams and whispering screams”. The pseudonyms of the members are Stelios and Io-V.

The two guys got to know each other in 1984 for the first time. They started producing music in the 1990s, at first using just a sampler and an Amiga 500. Their base material were recordings of sounds from the places they travelled to, like the rain. They cut them together and added breakbeats, acid sounds and guitars.

After a few years of making music together the two of them split again. Stelios got a job at a radio station and Io-V moved to Belgrade and started his medicine studies there.

It was 1998 when they met again and decided to found an electronic band. The idea behind the band name “StrangeZero” was that minorities are sometimes referred to as “Zero’s”. They thought that when a Zero is strange it becomes something special and can have an identity.

StrangeZero doesn’t restrict itself to a specific genre. So, they experimented with all different kinds of music and released 8 albums and a lot of other tracks. Their first two official albums were “Blue Trees, 7 Miles” (2003) and “Happens In A City” (2005). They also wrote music for a few movie documentaries.

But now it’s time to listen to one of their songs: Here is “Burnin Star”!
