...we let pandemics spread without intervening?

This week we look at what would happen if a global plague would not be stopped or in other words: what if we let pandemics spread without intervening?

The moment this article is written, the Coronavirus is raging around the whole world and infects many new people every day and causes more deaths with it. Right now, the goal is to decrease the infection rate, in order not to overload the hospitals so as many people as possible get treated properly. Therefore, every person is quarantined and social contact is decreased to an absolute minimum.

But what would happen, if the government simply didn’t care and let everything be as it was before?

Obviously, the number of infected and daily infections would skyrocket and therefore also the number of deaths. Hospitals would be totally overfilled and not be able to treat any people properly anymore.

Even bigger mass panic would occur and in a very short period, almost the whole population would suffer from the disease.

This is why everything is done to keep the amount of infected as low as possible and to spread the total amount of infected on a possibly high amount of time until a cure can be found.

So all in all, decreasing the amount of the infected until a cure can be found is the most intelligent solution there is. In order for it to work though, everyone must participate and self isolate themselves.
