...everyone spoke the same language

Nowadays, many people know at least the basics of the world language English. This gives people from different backgrounds the opportunity to communicate with each other, even though they have different mother tongues.

What would it be like though, if there was only one language in the entire world and everyone knew how to speak and write it?

Firstly, of course, there wouldn’t be any language barrier anymore and people all over the world could communicate with each other, which would make many things a lot easier. Also, there would be a lot less miscommunication. The problem of not being able to communicate with one another would be gone and every person would be able to talk to everyone else.

One downside although is, that the culture of many civilisations would be affected negatively, if not completely eradicated. This proves to also be a problem nowadays, as many languages are about to or already have gone extinct. Many languages have been lost over the years and with them a beautiful part of their culture.

All in all, language is one of the greatest achievements of humanity and enable us to communicate with each other and give us the opportunity to achieve great things. If everyone spoke the same language, it would make many things easier and enable all the people to communicate with one another without problems. On the other hand though, an important part of many cultures would be gone, which might not be worth it.
