Today I would like to tell you something about Michalis Hatzigiannis. He is a Cypriot singer who was born on the 5^th of November 1978 in Nicosia. He is especially known in Greece and mostly everybody in Cyprus and Greece recognizes his music.

Music has always been a very important part of his life as he also went to the Cyprus Music Academy where he got a degree in piano, guitar and also music theory. From the young age of 18 on he took part in several song contests in Cyprus. He also won the first place in two of them.

Due to his appearances on those shows he became more and more popular as an artist. This was the reason why he was given the opportunity to represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998. Michalis Hatzigiannis sang a song that he had written himself, called “Genisis”, and actually managed to finish 11^th.

In 2000 he then released his first album “Paraxeni Giorti” which contained many hits and actually became double-platinum. In 2001 he then was awarded for “Best New Artist” at the Mad Video Music Awards.

There is no doubt that Michalis Hatzigiannis is one of the most popular artists in Greece and Cyprus and that his career and music inspired many other musicians till today.
