...the moon suddenly turned into a black hole

This week we decided to think about the quiet unlikely scenario of our moon suddenly turning into a black hole. How would it affect us and what would we see now if we looked into the night sky?

First, we have to figure out what a black hole actually is. A black hole is an object, which such high gravitational pull that nothing, not even light, can escape it. This means that if we want the moon to turn into a black hole, we’d have to shrink it to a small space so that all the gravity gets focused.

If that happened to the moon, it’d have to shrink to the size of a grain of sand. In other words, we wouldn’t even be able to see it from earth anymore and for us, it would be, as if the moon simply disappeared.

We would only notice it if something massive would collide with it which would cause a big explosion and we could see that.

Also, since the mass of the moon didn’t change it would still have the same gravitational pull and also that would stay the same. The biggest difference we’d notice would be that the light of the moon is gone. Therefore, all night active animals depended on the moon would have a hard time adapting to the new situation.

So, if our moon turned into a black hole nothing major would happen besides no more light coming to earth.
