Today I want to introduce a very famous style of music to you. This genre is especially popular in the USA but many people do not know that there is actually a big scene in Greece which represents this genre. The music I am talking about is Hip Hop and Rap in Greece.

Some say that the first album influenced by rap to appear in Greece was in 1992 the album “Modern Fears” by Aris Thomas but officially the album “Diamartiria” by the artist Active Member.

In 1997 Gangsta Rap appeared in Greece for the first time but back then this type of music was not something the Greek mainstream audience listened to. But a few years later the artists Imiskoumbria and Goin’ Through made this special genre also very popular for the Greek mainstream audiene. At that time it was especially the society and the political issues that invaded to this special type of music.

The most famous Greek rap artists are Terror X Crew, Imiskoumbria, Active Member, Taki Tsan, Mad Clip, 12os Pithikos, Bong da City and Light.
