Kreatopita

Kreatopita is a dish you will be positively surprised by. It is a traditional Greek meat pie, that’s not just easy to make, but also tastes great. There are many alternatives to this traditional recipe. You can make this Greek meat pie with béchamel (white sauce) or with more yellow cheese. If you like light flavors, you should try this pie without the béchamel sauce. Anyways, this recipe I share with you uses béchamel and serves around 8-10 people.

For extra flavor, you can add 1 spoon of tomato sauce and some chopped bacon or ham. Making the dish takes around one hour and a half to prepare and around 50 minutes to bake.

 

Kreatopita Recipe – Ingredients

  • 1 kg of ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons of Greek olive oil
  • 1 teacup of chicken broth
  • 3 tablespoons of parsley, finely chopped
  • Bechamel sauce
  • 1/2 teacup of Parmesan, grated
  • 500 g of phyllo dough
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 3/4 teacup of butter, melted

 

Kreatopita Recipe – Instructions

  1. Start this Kreatopita recipe by taking a large pot. Add the oil and bring it to boil.
  2. Add the ground beef and onion. Stir well so that the mixture does not curdle.
  3. Add the chicken broth, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  4. Allow ground beef to simmer until all liquids are absorbed.
  5. Prepare the béchamel sauce.
  6. Add the Parmesan cheese to béchamel and stir.
  7. Take a baking pan and place half of the phyllo dough. Butter each one well before you place it.
  8. Pour over the ground beef. Make sure that the ground beef filling is not very thick.
  9. Now, evenly pour over the béchamel sauce.
  10. Cover the béchamel sauce with the remaining phyllo dough. Again, butter each phyllo before you place them.
  11. Preheat oven to 200 C.
  12. Cut the surface of the Kreatopita into square pieces.
  13. Bake for around 50 minutes until the surface gets a nice brown color.
  14. Remove Kreatopita from the oven.
  15. Allow the Kreatopita to cool down for 10 minutes.
  16. Cut and serve.
