Saint Anyway

This week I want to introduce you to Saint Anyway, a trio based in Duluth, a city on Lake Superior in Minnesota, USA. The group, consisting of Jamie Kallestad, Tony Petersen and Dane Levinski, describes themselves as a banjo-bass-guitar string band, whose original brand of folk music is known as “stomp-grass”.

While the band’s last two albums, “Paper Town” and “Two” released in the years 2009 and 2010, were both never out-of-time banjo-guitar arrangements, the trio created a banjo-fueled bonfire of north-country grit and unrestricted high spirits with their third album “Here on the Ground”. This album of Saint Anyway conveys a spirit, so far only seen at the band’s hell-raising road show, as well as marks a coming-of-age for Minnesota’s most exciting new stomp-grass ensemble.

In order to spice up the rhythm of their third album the band called up some musician friends from across the country to contribute to “Here on the Ground”. The addition of fiddle, Dobro, an American brand of resonator guitar and brass section, the album’s sound is bigger and more un-classifiable than ever before.

All of the trio’s songs are originals and recorded live in two re-purchased churches in northern Minnesota.

With now already four full-length albums, national tours and hundreds of live shows Saint Anyway continues to move at a breakneck pace, constantly increasing their success.

To see for yourself you now have the chance to listen to their song “Hopeless, Romantic” from their album “Here on the Ground”. I hope you enjoyed this band as much as I did.
