Charlie Mosbrook

It is yet again time for another “Band of the week” or in our case artist. On this account, let me introduce you to Charlie Mosbrook, award-winning songwriter, performer and advocate for American folk music.

Mosbrook began his career in 1988 as street musician, performing familiar and original folk songs on street corners and subway platforms in the eastern parts of the US. He quickly became a known open mic host in Northeast Ohio and after perfecting his stagecraft, musical and songwriting skills, Charlie Mosbrook today performs for concert series and major festivals throughout the US. His recordings of traditional and original songs have been featured by various popular folk radio programs around the world.

In his role as advocate for folk music Mosbrook organizes local open mics and serves as president for Folknet and vice president for FARM (Folk Alliance Region Midwest).

His song “Remember Who We Are” earned him 2nd place in the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Contest in summer 2018. Part of the honor was an invitation for him to perform on the main stage during the festival.

In addition to the Woody Guthrie songwriting contest Charlie Mosbrook’s original songs have been featured on various respected outlets for folk music ,including Folk Alley, Strings and Beyond, The Standing O Project, No Depression and many more.

A scene magazine readers’ poll listed him as Cleveland’s best singer-songwriter in 2011.

After suffering from an incomplete spinal cord injury in 2010, Mosbrook took advantage of his experience in endurance sport to continue moving forward as a performer. As a result he still tours annually and independently by train, bus or plane. The injury forced him to adapt as a guitarist and the need to reinvent his technique led to a burst of creativity resulting in five new CDs, each being more beautiful than the previous.

On a monthly basis Mosbrook performs for patients at Cleveland’s MetroHealth Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Unit, where he himself receives treatment, sharing his experience and message of strength and hope with other people concerned.

To come to an end and conclude this “Band of the week”, you have the opportunity to listen to one of the artists songs. Please lean back and enjoy Charlie Mosbrook’s “Goodnight” from his album “A Time Long Gone”.
