Thomas Katerkamp

It is time again for another band of the week. Today I want to present you the German composer Thomas Katerkamp, who wrote a lot of pieces for piano you can listen to on Jamendo.com.

Thomas Katerkamp was born in Gronau, Germany in 1974. He started making music as a child. First he learned to play the recorder, as a teenager he changed to the guitar and later he learned to play the piano. With the age of 21 he applied to the music academy in Zwolle in the subject jazz guitar and was accepted. He finished his studies there successfully and continued studying at Henk Meutgeert and Henk Huizinga jazz composition and classical composition at Alex Manassen.

In the following years he wrote compositions and arrangements for the boogie woogie pianist Jereoen Sweers and the saxophone quartet "Saxforce". In addition, he composed and arranged music for several musical projects, short films and other projects. The last years he focused more on chamber music and smaller casts. So he wrote various pieces for violin and guitar. Today Thomas Katerkamp works as a guitar and music teacher in Duisburg, Germany.

Thomas Katerkamp forms together with Stefan Sicolo the band "Viotarre", which is a duo out of a guitar and a violin. They mainly perform own compositions, which are mostly classical music but sometime with the influence of oriental music, pop or tango. Their songs tell a story, an event or an experience.

On Jamendo.com you can listen to his three albums: "Duo's For Harp And Piano" published in 2012, "Piano Dishes" published in 2013 and "Funf kurze Geschichten aus Hochfeld" from 2015.

Now stay and enjoy one of Thomas Katerkamps compositions of the album "Piano Dishes": "Ups And Downs From Upfield".
