... we could control nuclear fusion?

For a start, I want to tell you why it could indeed be important for humans to make nuclear fusion save and useful for generating power.
As the earth get's more and more polluted through the usage of fossil fuels every day, it get's more and more important to switch to green power sources, for example
Solar or wind power. The word nuclear might not be the first thing you associate with renewable and clean energy sources because of nuclear reactors.
These are infamous for accidents like Fukushima or Chernobyl. And obviously also the nuclear waste created by all these reactors.

When it comes to nuclear fusion the story is a different one, through the high power generation the technology is obviously also dangerous, especially if something
goes wrong. First let me explain how nuclear fusion works. Nuclear fusion is a nuclear reaction in which two or more atomic nuclei come very close and
then collide at a very high speed and join to form a new nucleus. During this process, matter is not conserved because some of the matter of the fusing
nuclei is converted to photons which is energy. This is how the sun or any star works. Therefore the potential is gigantic.
During this process there is close to no waste created, the radiation created is not dangerous to humans which makes it a clean power source.
The current problem of the technology is that the energy it takes to start a nuclear fusion is higher then the energy that can be extracted from it.
As it is a very complicated and cost intensive process, research on this field costs a lot of money.
With fatly evolving technologies, one can hope there will be a breakthrough, and this technology gets energy efficient as well as usable
for humans to create electricity.
It certainly has the potential to save the world’s energy problem in a clean way.
Having said that there is still a lot of work to be done to make it save  because if something goes wrong the destruction can be enormous.
