The Battle of the Labyrinth

“The Battle of the Labyrinth” is an American fantasy-novel based on Greek mythology. It is the forth part of the best-selling series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” by Rick Riordan centred around demigods, children of gods and humans, living in present time United States. In the novel series the main character Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon and a mortal woman, and his friends experience many adventures and save the world on several occasions with the help of ancient Greek gods and various mythical creatures.

The book starts with Percy Jackson in his first days at a new high school. His peaceful life is soon disrupted when he faces two disguised monsters, but manages to fight them and escape. After this incident he is forced to travel to the so-called “Camp Half-Blood”, a training facility for young demigods. It is a save place for mythical creatures, protected by a magical barrier from invasion by evil forces. But during a training fight, Percy and his friend, fellow demigod Annabeth, discover the entrance to the Labyrinth. It is a magical underground maze, with its other entrance unknown. But it presents an invasion route directly in the heart of the camp and they soon realise that the evil forces never rest. The main antagonist of the series, the demigod Luke and the Titan Kronos already formed an alliance. Our young heroes embark on a great quest to find the constructor of the Labyrinth, but many dangers lie on their way.

“The Battle of the Labyrinth” is a fantastic novel, especially for young readers. A fun way to learn about Greek mythology and I can only recommend reading it and reading the whole series.
