Eleni Foureira

If you followed the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 you definetely know her – if not, you might also have heard her song already several times on the radio or in the internet.
With "Fuego" Eleni Foureira represented Cyprus at the ESC this year – and scored the 2nd place after "Netta" from Israel. This was the best place Cyprus reached in the history of the song contest.

Eleni Foureira was born in 1987 in Albania but at an early age moved to Greece with her family where she grew up. She considers herself also more as a Greek than an Albanian. She did not reveal her origin until 2014 because she feared to not be accepted in the music industry.
After being discovered by Andreas Giatrakos she was a member of the Greek girl band "Mystique" from 2007 to 2010. After this she started her solo career and her debut album, also named Eleni Foureira, released in 2010, reached platinum in Greece. She published all in all four albums, the last one "Vasilissa" in December 2017.
She won several awards throughout the years and was a judge at the Greek TV show "So you think you can dance".
Taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest seemed to be one of her dreams, as she attempted to represent Greece already several times but got rejected. In 2018 finally she was accepted to sing for the Cypriot flag – and was succesful with the 2nd place. She did not just convince with her song that was written by Alex Papaconstantinou but also with her great choreographic performance on the stage.
