... we wouldn't sweat?

It's summer again and here on Chios it's very hot now. Summer is nice but there is one annoying thing about it, you start to sweat. Everybody knows it, your skin get's wet, you start to smell and have to shower or to use deodorant. But what if we wouldn't sweat?

In a world without sweating summer must be really nice right? You could stay in the sun as long as you want without feeling uncomfortable. And doing sports would also be better right? Running while it's hot without getting all wet. We would for sure save a lot of water, which is now used for showering. And deodorant wouldn't be needed at all anymore, that would also be good for our environment. Sounds like a perfect world.

But only on the fist sight. Maybe we should ask our selves „Why do we sweat at all?”. The main purpose of sweating is to regulate our body temperature. We have glands all over our body that secrete sweat over the whole day. When the temperature of our skin is high enough the sweat evaporates. For that a lot of thermal energy is necessary, which our body delivers and in effect we are cooling down. So if we wouldn't sweat, our body wouldn't be able to regulate its body temperature anymore and we would easily overheat. A day on the beach or doing sports could be really dangerous then.

So even it is sometimes really annoying to sweat on a hot day, we still should be thankful for it, because it makes sure we stay cool.
