... all people would be vegans?

Maybe you can imagine to eat no meat for a longer time or you already tried it. But what do you think about living completely without products produced by animals?

During the last years more and more people started to live vegan. Apart from meat they do not eat other products like milk, eggs or honey. Also, they do no use cosmetics or cloths which contain animal substances. But what would happen if all people in the world would become vegan?

Today on our earth are living around 20 billion of chicken, 1,5 billion cows, more than 1 billion sheep and nearly 1 billion pigs. If we would not eat meat, we could stop to breed all these animals. As a result of this, we would have nearly 33 billion square kilometer of free land. This is an area as big as Africa. We could use this space for renaturalisation of the landscape or to produce more biofuel.

In this way we could also reduce the emission of greenhouse gas. Also, the production of animal feed, the transport and the emission of methane gas by the animals contribute to the global warming and could be reduced. It is the same with the global water consumption. For producing a piece of meat you need much more water than for producing fruits.

Also, some common illnesses like cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and diabetes could become less. But with our current production of foods we would not be able to provide to everybody the needed amount of calcium, vitamin A and B12 as well as some special fatty acids.

Furthermore, we use the excrements of animals as organic fertilizer. Without animals, we would have to use much more synthetic one. And instead of using agricultural rubbish for producing animal food we would have to burn it. And this would produce a lot of carbon dioxide, too.

Moreover, in some cultures it is a symbol of wealth to eat meat and to become vegan could make cultural arguments. And of course some bred animal species would die out.

The reasons why people stop to eat meat are different. Some of them protest against the current factory farming and others want to protect the environment.

What if you would live vegan or at least vegetarian for a while. Maybe not for the rest of your life but for one week or one month. Do you think your life would change much? And would it become better? What if you would really try it?
