... nobody had prejudices?

This time I invite you to listen to a little mind game. Our today's topic: prejudices. An opinion not based on reason or even without actual experience. I am sure, that everybody would agree, if I call them unfair. They prevent us from being open-minded and welcoming new situations with open arms. We have an opinion about persons that we never saw in our lives. As soon as someone gives an opinion about foreign people or actions, we start to make our own opinion and face upcoming situation with prejudices. But what if nobody had them?

It seems to be very easy. From now on we never make up our own opinion before we really faced the situation. But the reality looks different. Especially when we like or trust a person, we believe this one more easily. If we imagine that this – we could call it automatic – process would not happen, I am sure that the life of us all would be probably completely different.

Let me give you one example:

You plan to go on a trip during your holiday. You find a nice city, a good hotel and plan your upcoming stay. Later a good friend of yours tells you about his bad experiences that he had when he visited this place. He describes it as unappealing and draws a bad image of it in your head. Influenced by his opinion you decide to plan to travel somewhere else. But actually you did not think about that your preferences are completely different to the ones of your friend. In the end you are disappointed because you did not exactly follow your dreams and expectations for your holiday. You will never know and just change, because one person had a bad opinion about it.

It is even proofed that in a group our opinion is more influenced because of the opinions of other members.Without prejudices in our mind we would for sure make more decisions on our own. Probably we would become more self confident and would discover own preferences. We would loose some friendships through realizing that we would not be made for each other, but on the other hand getting to now other persons, we maybe would have never met because we had prejudices about them. We would be less afraid of facing new situations, because we would not take care about another person's opinion and face the future with open arms.

I imagine this to be fantastic: just doing the things that we want, just speaking to people we don't know without having prejudices and being influenced already. For sure it is not easy to escape from this "automatic" impact, but in my opinion it is a start to have in mind, that we want to make up own decisions, even if somebody gave an opinion already.

Living without prejudices would in my opinion guarantee for more self-confidence, freedom and more intense relationships and adventures.

So for the next time, just do how you feel and collect your own experience.
