... children populated a lonely island?

An exciting and interesting experiment would be to put a dozen of teenagers on a lonely island.
Of course it is nothing humanity should test, because it is outright unethical and connected with many risks.
But let us play it through in our minds instead.

When the children arrived on the island, most of them would initially be upset.
Being so far away from their familiar environment and with no clue what has happened to them this seems comprehensible.
Some of them would cry for sure but after a while they would put up with their fate.
Assuming they are speaking the same language, they would most probably come together and discuss the situation.

Now there are two possible extremes.

If the children are cooperative they would decide to work together in order to survive.
That would be optimal for them, as it is way easier for them to hunt and organize themselves in general.
Furthermore the talents of the respective teenager could be exploited effectively.
So for instance the smart ones are capable of creating plans while the strong ones are able to build accommodation.

The other extreme we can imagine as the following...
There is a complete chaos, because everyone puts his interests first.
Of course, this way the chances for survival of the group would not be that high.
Not only would the productivity decrease a lot, because the individuals would not work together any more,
but the teenagers would also fight each other in order to claim the most valuable resources.

In the end, we will never know what would actually happen to the group of teenagers.
The answer is supposed to be somewhere in between the two extremes described above and is directly dependent on the personal maturity of the individuals.
