... everybody was blind?

Seeing is for most of the people something natural and a part of their everyday life. We travel to different places, we visit museums, we buy clothes or food because they attract our attention when we see them in the stores or in advertisement. Our life and behavior is influenced by what we see. But what if everybody was blind?

It is scientifically proved that other senses like tasting, feeling or hearing are much more intense when we close our eyes. For example when the brain doesn't focus on the stimuli from seeing whilst listening to music in an opera, we could perceive the music with it's sounds much better. Also whilst eating the brain can focus more on the taste. The visual stimuli are in this cases actually less relevant. Beside the more intense sense-perceptions there is also our everyday life that would be probably much different.

People would not care about their own or about other person's appearance. Colors or art would be unappealing, because nobody would recognize their value. For sure, we would not travel around the world to visit different places to go on vacation, to explore a different surrounding or nature. Also cars, ships or airplanes would probably not exist in the same way they do today, since nobody could steer them without causing accidents. Nobody would be interested in normal books or photographs. We would just concentrate on what we feel, on what we hear or smell. Maybe technique would be much more investigated in this area – for example transportation without drivers, or books that would be read out loudly - because people would focus much more on it.

In general there are so many things that we would miss in this world, without seeing them. Although other senses would be much more intense – what could be good for personal experiences or relationships – a great part of everyday life and opportunity would be missing. Personally I cannot imagine how difficult it would be, if I was blind from now on or how it would have been to be born this way. Can you imagine a life like this?
