... we communicated only by writing?

What would happen if one day everyone looses his or her voice, sign language is forgotten, and the only way to communicate was by writing on paper? Try to forget for a while about advanced technology devices and pretend that the only way to communicate was to write down, using your hand's effort, a pen and a paper, what you want to say.

Of course at the beginning people will hardly get used to it, and the amount of information and communication would remain the same. Everyone would go around with thousands of bags and folders full of thousands of long papyri and tiny notes. Trials would be carried out on toilet paper and parents would argue with their children through the notebook they hold on the fridge.
People would re-use the same notes to say “hello”, to ask “how are you?” or “what time is it?” and we would soon go crazy trying to find again and and over again that particular phrase we already wrote and that we want to use because it fits perfectly also in another situation.

However, after a period of stress in which people would constantly be busy with finding old notes or writing and re-writing again new ones on every kind of surface, and with any tool they find, we would slowly get a aware of the deforestation issue, and we would get tired of small talks and useless chatting because these take so much energy and time from us. Nobody would greet or communicate with the other any more unless it is really important to do so, and words would have a heavier weight. We would meditate more on what to write and when we express ourselves we would try to be as precise, as useful and as accurate as we can be in order to save up energy for the next act of communication. The good ones will manage to use just one notebook per week whereas the lazy, the hesitant, and the meticulous ones would quit communication once for all.

What do you think? Would you change your way in communicating with others? Would you became more aware of words weight?
