... we were all born American?

Today I'd like to talk about what would happen if all the people around the world were born American. We will hit a lot of stereotypes with this topic but it seems interesting enough to think about it and consider the possibility.

Well, first of all, it would be indisputable that America is the Greatest Power of all the countries then. But we don't want to talk politics today. There are multiple stereotypes about the personality of a true American. According to those we would all be materialists, caring only about our new car, new iPhone or laptop. We would cruise the neighborhood in our SUVs or minivans. This braggery is based on our overconsumption. We buy new things and throw away the old ones without giving it a second thought. Who cares about wasting food? Of course, part of us would have to get obese, just to keep up the percentage they have now which is 34.8% by the way. At the end of the day we would all sit at home, polishing our guns and storing them in our bedside table, just in case a thief comes in during the night. If we shoot him we just call it self-defense. Maybe we also watch the news, checking out how the situation in some wartorn country is where our father/brother/boyfriend/husband is fighting for peace, in the name of America of course. All in all, we would be optimistic and happy on the outside and greet everyone with a friendly but not serious "How are you?". But mostly we don't even wait for the answer.

The world would share all the special days and celebrate the same things. Fireworks would all be produced just to be used on July 4th. We'd all have the same days off which would lead to mass tourism on those days. Christmas would be the international gift-giving on December 25th. Of course we would tell our kids that Santa Claus brought them. But our biggest problem about the festivities would be Thanksgiving - after a few years turkey would probably become extinct. But no worries, there would probably still be the genetically engineered turkeys from some laboratory.
Some typically American habits or things would certainly go around the world. Walmart and Target stores everywhere. Barbecues wherever you go - something I would definitely enjoy. Here a big mall, there an outlet store. And - of course - air conditioning in every building.

Now, this is a very critical point of view on this matter, there are for sure many advantages and not every American acts out these stereotypes. However, what we truly have to acknowledge is that it would be a loss of differences and cultures if everyone were American. I celebrate this diversity and so should you!
