Serifos

Serifos is a Greek island in the Aegean Sea, located in the western Cyclades, south of Kythnos and northwest of Sifnos. This picturesque island has a really interesting history. In the Greek mythology, Serifos is the place where Danaë and her son Perseus were washed ashore, because her father set them adrift at sea in a wooden chest, responding to an oracle thatpredicted that his own grandson would kill him.

 

When you visit Serifos island, don’t forget to go to the Hellenistic white tower. The white tower was used as a watchtower in the Hellenistic era. This impressive ancient monument is located in really beautiful natural environment. You should see it! This island is also known for it's characteristic houses. The local people mostly paint their homes in white and blue colours which makes the towns and villages really wonderful looking! Aside from relaxed holidays you can also enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, climbing, mountain biking and diving on Serifos island! If you would like visit local restaurants and traditional taverns you can for sure find typical dishes like marathotiganites (with fennel), dried tomatoes, revithada (with chickpeas), fava, local sausages, skepastaria, xinomizithra and mizithra (used in the Greek salad). You can find in Serifos island nearly 72 beaches! Psili Ammos is a must-visit for every tourist. This beach is known because of it's white, sandy beach with turquoise waters. You can enjoy your time by renting a sailing boat or you can spend fantastic time with you family or friends at the beach. Whatever form of activities you want to choose, the most important thing is to visit the incredible island Serifos if you have possibility!
