Mephitis

Are you ready for another round of “Creatures from HELLAs”? Because this week I would like to introduce you to Mephitis a nocturnal monster which you harldy ever see. So read alert to guess in the end whether it is a creature from Hellas or not.

As I already told you Mephitis is a monster which only acts in the night. Over the day he sleeps in a cave well protected from the sun because the sun is its natural enemy. But once the sun has set down Mephitis wakes up and starts his work. As every person he wakes up with a strong feeling of hunger. This hunger directs him to the villages because humen blood is his preferred meal. If you now imagen Mephitis as a huge monster with wings and big teeth I have to correct you. Mephitis is a small beast with little paws which make a silently walk possible. With his pitch black feur he coalesces with the night and he gets invisible. The invisibility and the soundlessness make it impossible to notice his coming. And because of his size Mephitis can enter houses easily. Mabye you now wonder how a small creature like Mephitis can kill humans. But he has a special feature. He uses a numbing smell to make his victims powerless. Once you inhaled this scent you are lost. Now Mephitis can act without any worries he has the rest of the night to enjoy his meal. There is only one way to protected yourself from Mephitis and that is light. As I explained the sun light is his natural enemy. Although the light of a candle is not as strong as the sun it still has a daunting impact on him. So if you sleep with a candle next to your bed he mabye goes to the next house where no light restricts him. But there is another natural limitation which prevents a enormous number of Mephitis and that is himself. Mephitis are loners that means if tow of them meet they fight as long as either one dies or one flees. So although Mephitis is a very dangerous creature there will never be to many of them. But still I would suggest you to put a light next to your bed and also to the beds of your children.
