"The Last Olympian" is an American fantasy-novel and the fifth part of the best-selling series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" by Rick Riodan. It is based on Greek mythology and centered around demigods living in present time United States. These children of gods and humans, who life in mixed world of reality and mythology, are in a constant battle between good and evil powers.
The series revolves around the main character Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon. In this novel, which is the final part of the series, Percy and his friends fight in a last stand to protect Mount Olympus from Kronos and his army of titans and vicious creatures.
The story starts with Percy and his friend Rachel Dare on a drive. While talking about everyday matters, their conversation is suddenly interrupted. A fellow demigod, Charles, arrives on the back of Percy's pegasus. He needs Percy to join him on an attack to destroy a mystical ship, the Princess Andromeda. However when everything seems lost, Kronos' servants discover that Charles already planted the bombs. Charles presses the trigger, while Percy barely has time to jump off.
He passes out.

Percy now hast to return to Camp Half-Blood, the headquaters of the demigods. There waits the Great Prophecy to be fulfilled, but still, many problems lie on the way.
The final part of the series is certainly a good read and has received many positive critics. A recommendation for both young and old readers, and a fun way to learn more about greek mythology. The story, however, is not finished with this book and resumed in another of Rick Riodan's series, called “The Heroes of Olympus”.
