Kostas Perrikos - The Chian against the Nazi

In September 1942 an attack shook whole Greece occupied by the Nazi. Kostas Perrikos and other combatant killed many German officers with an enormous explosion in central Athens. Media from Moscow to London called this assault the so far most important blow against Hitler in the areas occupied by the Nazi. Perrikos, who wasborn on Chios, got nationwide an admired but tragic hero.

Constantine Kanaris - The "Avenger of Chios"

Constantine Kanaris was one of the grand figures in the independence war of the Greeks against the Turkish occupation. Many Greek people still link this name with courage, will, passion and patriotism - he simply is a popular, admired national war hero. Even though he was born on a neighbor island of Chios, the Chians love him like their own son.

Christopher Columbus - A Son of Chios?

Christopher Columbus was the great navigator and explorer, as well as the respective discoverer of America as everybody knows. The year 1492 is probably one of the first historic dates every child learns, but the date and especially the place of his birth is unknown and topic of passionate discussions.
