The origin of the churro is unclear, but the theory is that it was brought from Greece to Spain by the Portuguese. The porutguese were learning new culinary techniques, but they were not able to make the Churro with its original Greek technique, which was to “pull” the dough, so instead they extruded it out through a star-shaped die, which gave them a star shape to it.

Normally you find Churros that are straight, curled or spirally twisted. But as the churro is becoming more and more popular around the world, you can see that the shapes vary and also the additional ingredients.

Do you believe this story is true?

Solution:

this story is not true: The theory says that the churro was brought to Europe from China by the Portuguese and the Chinese emperor made it a capital crime to share knowledge with foreigners, therefore they did not learn how to “pull” the dough.
