Dotia

This week I would like to take you in historical and beautiful place. Dotia is located in the south of Chios Island. Going a bit back to the main road from Emborios beach that leads to Pirgi we come to a junction with the road to this village.

Dotia is a region formerly known as a hunting area. To all appearances this village is normal place. It is not too much special and it has not a lot of occupants. People live there in peace. They are happy and enjoy being surrounded by nature, but sometimes something simple and usual stuff can create unusual place. And this small town is like this. During spring this village is totally green and the landscape is stunning. Everything looks so beautiful because in Dotia is the largest mastic field of Pirgi. The mastic trees surround in a unique manner an impressive monument, which is an example of the military architecture of the medieval period of Chios. This monument is a Tower of Dotia. The tower was built during the general fortification of the island at the start of the 15th century. Possibly, it is primary role had been to survey the production of mastic, which was always important for the economy of the island and still it is. This product is a main source of earning in Chios Island because just on the south this island mastic exist.
