... we had no ants in the world?

Summer is fast approaching, and with it comes the bugs. Today I will talk about the ants, because it would be fantastic to go trough a summer without the annoying small insects that seem to always find an entrance into your house. So what if we had no ants in the world?

Anywhere you travel in the world, you will find ants, maybe different species of ants, because there are actually more than 12000 species, but most of them more or less look the same. As most people know, the Ant can carry 20 times their own body weight which makes them one of the strongest creatures on earth.

Without ants, you will not have a house invaded by unwanted creatures every time you loose a small peace of food on the floor, and when a Ant colony has found a food source in your home, it is hard to get rid of them, some of them even build nests in your house. Without ants, this would not be a problem and you could enjoy warm summer days without worrying about these small creatures.

On the other hand, without ants in the world, we would not have learned everything we know about ants, the ants are exceptional builders, and most of the construction techniques we know, are knowledge from the ants. Also Ants make a big difference in nature, after fires or other nature destruction; ants carry around seed which help reproduce the forests. Ants also keep away other insects that are less friendly than the ants.

If we had no ants in the world, our houses would be crawling with other insects worse than ants and our forests are dependent on ants to maintain healthy. So the creatures you now look upon as annoying and unwelcome, think about the benefits they provide, and maybe you will think they are worth keeping after all.
