Λυκαβηττός - Lycabettus

Λυκαβηττός - Lycabettus

The Lycabettus is a limestone hill, it stands up to 277 m above sea level.
The hill is situated in the city of Athens near the centre which is dominated by the Acropolis that is 156 m high.
The name comes from the word “wolf” in greek “λύκος”, it is said that in antiquity

wolfs used to hide themselves through the wood that surround the hill and in greek Lycabettus means “the one(the hill) who is walked by wolves”
According to mythology the Lycabettus has been created by Athena who created it when she dropped a mountain she had been carrying from Pallene for the construction of the Acropolis after the box holding Erichthonios was opened.
From the top you can enjoy an amazing sight of Athens all around the hill until Piraeus port, and you can enjoy the best when it’s sunny and windy so without clouds because you can also see the ships in the middle of the sea.
In more on the top there is a church and a restaurant that you can enjoy.
To reach the top you can walk on a pathway through the woods or take the cable way but is a bit expensive.
I suggest to go there in the evening for a romantic dinner in more you can see all the lightened monuments.
