Anafi Island

Anafi’s secret attractions are its high, impressing cliffs high above the water of the Southern Aegean Sea. It is a must-do to climb up those rocks at least once during the stay on this Cycladic Island for enjoying the amazing sunset.

Chora is the capital of this place, although it is actually just a little, comfortable village with very traditional taverns and a number of smaller chapels that create an idyllic sight. Most of the 500 citizens of Anafi are living there. Also around Chora, there are some several locations. Indeed, you can only reach those villages by food as a tourist, because a car rental is not available on the Island and the roads are very old and in a bad state.

Even though Anafi is not in the most touristic holiday magazines, it contains very nice beaches with smooth sandy surfaces and an incomparable privacy. After spending your day at one of the costs, visitors can enjoy the night life in Chora during the summer time.

Also daytrips to the close Santorini are easily to organize, because ferries are going and coming back to this neighbor island very often per week. Surely, a tour to the monasteries of Zoodogou Pyrgi and Panaghia Kalamiotissa is a spectacular experience, too. Both buildings seem to grow out of the stone walls and overlook whitewashed the cracking waves.

Being one of Greece’ least accessible islands, Anafi does not have an airport. So, if you want to savour its unspoiled, relaxing character and its hidden loveliness, you should book your flight to Athens and take the boat to this Island. Or you find a rideshare opportunity on one of the sailing boats travelling around the Cyclades.

Whatever way you choose – take the adventure and make unforgettable experiences on Anafi Island.
