There are really many things to see, so one week can be inadequate to discover all the treasures of this island.
Asclepius, the god of the medicine, was worship, and the island is also the homeland of the father of the medicine, Hippocrates.
The mythology says that in this island there were three giants, that came here after the defeat by the greek's gods. Also Hercules stays in here for some years after the completion of the famous twelve fatigues.
In Kos there were several dominations like the minoans, the cretans, the dorians and so on, till the turkish and the italians came, so Kos became greek only in the 1948.


One of the most important things to visit in the island is the Asclepion, the great temple of the greek god of the medicine. Also the people from the continent came here to search the healings according to the teachings of Hippocrates.
In Kos Town you can see the plane tree of Hippocrates, one of the most ancient tree in Europe, where Hippocrates studied and taught medicine, the roman Odeon, the Neratzia’s castle, the medieval and the byzantine fortresses, the Gazi Hassan Pasha mosque and the Agora. Besides there are ancient mosaics, the stadium, the hot springs and a restored roman house. With all this antiquities is important for the island to have a good archaelogical museum. Farther there is the museum of the medicine.
Some villages on Kos are really interesting as Palio Pylos, a medieval abandoned village, Kefalos, the ancient capital of the island, Antimachia, with a venetian castle, and the list don’t finish here.
Speaking of the beaches, we have to say that there are really a lot of beautiful places. Kemari, Camel beach, Paradise beach, Agios Theologos are really wonderful beaches with a crystalline sea. In Agios Stefanos there are the ruins of an ancient basilica, in front of the beach there is the little island of Kastri, and who arrive in there by swim have to play the bell outside the Saint Nicola’s church.
