Xenia

Xenia is a film by the greek director Panos H. Koutras from the year 2014, and it tooks part at the Cannes Film Festival 2014. In these years the greek cinematography is producing movies with a good quality.

The plot of this film is about two brothers, Danny and Odysseus, that after the death of their albanian mother they go in search of their greek father that escaped when they were only babies, to force him to recognize them as sons.
Strangers in their own country, these teenagers begin a journey full of difficulties and obstacles to meet their father.

The movie recounts complicated themes like the acceptance, the growth, the sexuality, the abandonment, the immigration and so on, but also the joy and the lightheartedness through the passion of the two brothers for the italian singer Patty Pravo, the favorite singer of their mother.
The theme of the trip, physical and figurative, is predominant. It arrives at high and touching moments when Dany leaves the youth and he begins the new and difficult way of the adult life. All the movie has a smart irony that allow to lighten and to deepen, thanks also to the music of Patty Pravo.

The brotherly love is the lighthouse of the film for two teenagers grown in an unhospitable reality. The director Kounas is good for talk of hard arguments with music, color, throb and with the fusion between dreamlike and reality.
Also the photography is well done.
In the end this is a good movie.
