... children were in charge?

Nowadays and probably always in the history of human beings adults took care of everything, economy, politics and so on. It also makes sense of course, because they are mature, educated and more rational. But if you look at how many things go wrong in our world that was clearly created by grown-ups maybe we should try to look at our situation from a different angle. So what if children were in charge?

A world in which children have the responsibility to make decisions and form our reality after their own colorful imagination and ideas: would that be a better place for all of us? Just ask your own children, little siblings, nephews and nieces what they would change if we would give them the chance. The first answers will be probably something like free sweets for everybody. No bedtime regulations. That 2 meter high bright orange plastic crane with remote control that they did not get for Christmas.

Then the kids would get a little bit more adventurous: Airplanes fully made of chocolate with sugar icing in all the colors of the rainbow. A new currency would be introduced, probably chocolate beans or gummy bears. Lakes and seas would be filled up with soft drinks and tigers, snakes and elephants held as pets.

At some point our new leaders would become aware of all the problems we have to face nowadays. Of course this is only speculation but we like to think that most children would not hesitate to give part of their food to people in need, be honest and try to make life enjoyable for everyone.

Despite that the responsibilities that our children would have to take would be unbearable for someone their age and would probably drive them crazy. Also there are just some things they are just not educated and experienced enough to handle alone and it would be hard for them to actually realize what impact their decisions might have on their fellow human beings. We should let our kids enjoy their childhood innocence and raise them to be responsible and fair adults that will fight for a better world when they are grown up and their time has come. Until then maybe we can try to take a moment to look at our problems things through the eyes of a child and not focus too much on money and profit but on humanity, fairness and solidarity with all the people of different countries, religions and cultures.
